Bordered by high red bluffs, Bottomless Lakes State Park offers hiking, swimming, fishing and scuba diving. Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge is one of the more significant wetland areas of the Pecos River watershed system. Just an hour west are the mountains, where you'll find Ruidoso with nearby skiing and year-round recreation.
